The Union City Fire Department is all fired up for the October observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with personnel recently purchasing their own pink shirts to wear during the month to show their support. Among those who sported their shirts last week as they did routine cleanup of a fire engine while working their shift were (from left) Lt. Richard Stegall, firefighter Rick Stacks, Capt. Karl Ullrich and firefighter Trena Edgin, assisted by Union City Fire Chief Kelly Edmison. The pink UCFD shirts, which feature the fire department maltese cross and fire hoses crossed to form a ribbon, are also being made available for sale to the public. The shirts are $15 each, with all proceeds over the cost of the shirts being donated to Hometown Walk of Hope. Orders will be accepted through Friday. Anyone interested may contact Ms. Edgin by email at firechick_4034@yahoo.com or through her Facebook account. For firefighters, the month of October has added importance because it is also National Fire Prevention Month.
