An Obion County man was charged with alcohol- and drug-related offenses following a traffic stop Thursday night in Union City.
Joe Anthony Busby Jr., 30, of 804 Gum St., Union City, was arrested at 8:23 p.m. Thursday at Everett Boulevard and West Main Street in Union City on charges of driving under the influence, implied consent violation, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and reckless endangerment, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had initially responded about 8 p.m. to a report of a possible drunk driver in the 2000 block of West Reelfoot Avenue and had set up watch for the vehicle. A suspect vehicle was observed traveling northbound on Everett Boulevard from West Reelfoot Avenue and it was stopped at the intersection with West Main Street.
An officer reported the driver, identified as Busby, had red watery eyes and slurred speech. His 3-year-old son was reported to be a back seat passenger.
After sobriety tests, Busby was placed under arrest for the alcohol-related offenses and reckless endangerment.
Police searched the vehicle after a drug detection dog allegedly alerted on a passenger door, and officers found a small bag containing a substance believed to be marijuana and a pill bottle labeled Alprazolam issued to one of Busby’s family members, according to the report.
