Westview posts three shutouts in soccer Posted: Friday, September 21, 2012 12:00 pm Westview followed up a 1-2 record in the Liberty Shootout soccer tournament in Jackson this past weekend with a 10-0 win over Gibson County on Monday and a 1-0 triumph over Obion Central on Tuesday. The Lady Chargers defeated Jackson South Side 3-0 and lost to Jackson Christian 2-0 and Rossview 4-0. Against South Side, Alexus Taylor, Shelby Donavant and Emily Plunk all scored a goal. Makenzie Vincent had 30 saves on the tournament. All the goals came from different players against the Lady Pioneers. Taylor, Plunk, Donavant, Vincent, Reagan Brock, Kayla Guthrie, Georgia Brown, Brittney Johnson, Katelyn Luthi, and Mary Schommer all scored. Vincent had a save, while Alex Crosser had three saves. On Tuesday, the Lady Chargers scored midway through the first half to defeat Obion Central 1-0 at Troy. CROSS COUNTRY Prep Catey Delaney was fourth in the girls’ meet, while Donovan Davis finished fifth and Austin Maxey placed sixth on the boys’ side of the Union City Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Delaney medaled with a time of 24:48. Davis ran the course in 17:48, and Maxey finished in 20:14 to medal for the Lion boys. Theresa Minisquero was 17th, Eve Woodson was 18th, Alyssa Lilly placed 37th and Laura Bell was 55th for the Lady Lions. For the Dresden boys, Colten Delaney was 16th, Tim Heustis was 30th and Jon Goodlow placed 77th. College Bethel’s Sarah Hatler finished 83rd in the Black Division (Non-Division I-A schools) of the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic Saturday at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. The former Dresden High School runner finished the 6K course in 29:52.80. The Lady Wildcats did not compete as a team, sending four runners to the meet. Deanna Irvin was 55th (27:05.30), Lisa Mitchell finished 81st (29:32.90) and Kris Storey was 98th (32:21.60). Bethel’s men finished 14th out of 15 teams with a 348 points and a total time of 2:30:54.80. PREP GOLF Houston Haag was the medalist in a four-way golf match Tuesday at Wingfoot Golf Course in Union City. Haag fired a 38 to help Westview to a team total of 172, finishing two strokes behind Trenton for second place. Union City was third with a 190, while Obion Central fired a 196.
