A Tuesday evening accident has claimed the life of a Gleason School Educational Assistant. Ilene Taylor, a member of the Gleason School staff, was killed in a car accident which occurred on the old Greenfield Highway Tuesday.
A seventh-grade student at Gleason and his father were in the other vehicle involved in the accident. The father and son were airlifted to separate hospitals for treatment, according to a press release issued by the Weakley County School System.
The student was taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital of Memphis, while his father was taken to The Med in Memphis.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with these families. Gleason faculty and staff recall Ilene as a wonderful person and an asset to her school and our system,” Weakley County Director of Schools Randy Frazier said.
“We’ve been informed our student was released from LeBonheur, which is great news. We look forward to hearing that his father will be able to come home soon,” Frazier added.
Counseling services will be available at the school for students and staff in the coming days.
Details of the accident were unknown at press time. The Tennessee Highway Patrol had not concluded the report.
