The Tennessee State Society CDXVII Century recently met at Four Points by Sheraton in Brentwood, for the August state board meetings.
The meeting was called to order by state president, Benita Brown. The invocation was given by state chaplain, Sue Thompson. The national anthem was led by Cindy Waters.
Honorary state president, Charlotte Miller, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of USA.  Honorary state president, Aline Roberts, led the American’s Creed. The Salute to the Flag of Tennessee was led by honorary state president, Beverly Wood. The Salute to the  Flag of the Colonial Dames XVIIC was led by honorary LaVonne Jolly. Judy Chaffin read the object of the society.
Mrs. Brown welcomed all present. Next was the introduction of state officers; honorary state presidents and new historian, Laura Bales. Roll call by recording secretary, Carolyn C. Martin, gave a count of 37 present. A quorum was declared.
Officers reporting were: state president, Brown told about the “Iris Painting” being presented to national headquarters to go in the Tennessee Parlor; awards won by the TN Society in April; those who attended national conference and asking chapters to continue to send in Bible records; mark a historic site; and promote membership. Chaplain, Sue Thompson, reported three deaths this year; Phyllis Little, state organizing secretary reported we have 13 chapters in the state. Treasurer, Geraldine Sykes, gave the financial report; registrar, Joy Bland, reported we have 8 new members; 23 supplementals approved; 4 resigned and 4 deaths. Historian, Laura Bales, asked for PR to make the historian scrapbook.
Next were the reports of state chairmen. Bettie Gustafson on colonial heritage, reported October is Heritage Month. Get a proclamation in your town for this. Marking chairman, Phyllis Little, spoke on the latest marking “ Henry County Court House in Paris. Others were: Headquarters decorating by Cindy Waters; heraldry and coats of arms by Laura Bales; insignia by Debra Wilson; membership by Joy Bland; Pocahontas projects by Jen Whitehead; PR by Aline Roberts; veteran services by Nancy Carr; auditing by Nelly Shearer; standing rules by Charlotte Miller; and Florence Taney Scholarship by Carolyn Martin and Dorothy Potter Scholarship by Becky King.
Mrs. Brown announced the past board meeting minutes had been approved by a committee. Charlotte Miller, Aline Roberts, and Beverly Wood were appointed to approve these minutes today.
Under new business 1- a motion was made about decorating regarding the TN Pallor at our national headquarters.
A committee was appointed to look into this matter. They were: Benita Brown, Charlotte Miller, Beverly Wood and Cindy Waters. 2-The print disquisition “The Pride of TN” will be sold to the highest silent bidder with beginning amount $200.
Mrs. Brown remarked she was pleased 50 Bible records have been submitted to the state chairman.
The Fifty-Seventh State Conference will be held March 8, 2013 at this same hotel. Hostess chapters are: Clarendon, John McKnitt, Natchez Trace, Salmon Creek, and Thomas Lygon.
The benediction was given and the meeting adjourned.
