Annie Aletha (Church) Cates, 92, of Union City died Sept. 18, 2012, at Union City Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ronnie Gray and Mickey Hanks officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens and the family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Cates was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Obion County, daughter of the late John Henry Church and the late Leona (Evans) Church Wilkerson. She married Roy Hillard Cates Sr. Oct. 26, 1940. He died Oct. 11, 1993. She and her husband had been the owners and operators of the former Cates Grocery in Rives. She had also been employed at the former Salant & Salant in Union City. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church No. 2 near Rives and First Church of God in Union City.
Mrs. Cates is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Jerry Gray of Union City; her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Bobbye Cates of Martin; her sister, Wanda Sublett of Union City; three grandchildren, Kevin Cates of Martin, Chris Cates of Antioch and Laura Tidwell of Union City; six great-grandchildren, Gaven Hollandsworth, Adam Cates and Justin Cates, all of Martin, Austen Tidwell of Union City and Peggy Cates and Rebecca Cates, both of Antioch; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kevin Cates and William Cates, both of Martin.
She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Scott Northam; her sister, Revis Griffin; and two brothers, N.B. Wilkerson and Frank Evans Church.
