The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is enlisting the support of volunteers at its lakes on the Cumberland River and its tributaries for the 19th annual National Public Lands Day Sept. 29.
It is the largest volunteer hands-on restoration activity of its kind where people do clean up, repair, construction and refurbishment in public parks, forests, rivers, lakes, wetlands, and cultural and historic sites.
At Lake Barkley, volunteers will be working from 8 a.m. to noon repainting benches, hand rails, sign posts and trash receptacles. Low hanging branches throughout the park will be trimmed and hauled away and, if time remains, volunteers will also be doing shoreline clean up. Lunch will be provided. The starting location is at the Kuttawa Recreation Area (Swim Beach).
For additional information and directions, contact park ranger Rich Rice at (270) 362-4236. For the latest updates, follow Lake Barkley on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/lakebarkley.
