JACKSON — The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s annual field day devoted to pumpkin production is scheduled for Sept. 27 at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center.
Pumpkin Field Day will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 5:15 p.m. The goal of the event is to help local growers improve their pumpkin production practices. Pumpkin Field Day will feature nine informative presentations as well as a complimentary lunch.
Sessions will include updates on pumpkin variety performance, pest control tips, a seminar on irrigation and an in-depth look into pumpkin marketing strategies. The event will begin with a special presentation on Tennessee sales tax regulations on product sales.
The event will also feature a “Grower Panel” where visitors can ask questions and gain insight from their peers in pumpkin production. The field day will conclude with display design tips from the creator of the research center’s Pumpkin Harvest Display (which features 5,000 pumpkins, gourds and winter squash).
There is no cost to attend the Pumpkin Field Day, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged by calling (731) 425-4768 or emailing Ginger Rowsey at email@example.com.
