As a chamber board member and a parent of the Obion County Fair Grand Champion Chicken winner, I want to express my gratitude to an industry that has shown great leadership in this community by giving back — Tyson Foods, Inc.
Tyson invested by providing 25 chicks and a bag of feed for only $10 to over 105 area children. That’s over 2,500 chicks that are given out to the community for the kids to raise for three months. Then those kids come to the Obion County Fair to show and sell, and everybody leaves with money!
Also, the numerous other local businesses that come and bid on all these chickens, cows, hogs and lambs have my gratitude.
The kids smile so big when they get their money for these animals that they have taken care of and loved. If a kid’s chicken is not bought by a local business, Tyson always buys them back from the kids.
Tyson also gives back by giving away 2,000 meals during the Obion County CornFest event and also supports many other events throughout the year.
What a great company for giving back to the community!
I showed hogs in the Obion County Fair for 10 years. Thanks to all the businesses in town, I got to buy my first vehicle with my “hog” money.
With all of this being said, I want to thank every company that supports all local events by giving time, money and leadership to Obion County!
This also includes the upcoming Obion County Cruise-In on September 14th and 15th that everybody has been so giving and supportive of!
These are just a couple of the great examples we have in our great city and county. We need to remember to thank all of the remarkable companies we have and support them in all they do for us by investing money back into our community.
Let’s work together and think positive all the time.
Through struggles, differences and challenges, we can all be great leaders who work together as a city and a county.
To the businesses in Obion County, THANK YOU for all your hard work and contributions!
