Lael Sunday School Class met at the family life center at Union City First Baptist Church recently.
Faye Passmore opened the meeting with prayer.
She asked for the names of those who are sick and in need of prayer and Dorothy Rasberry led in prayer.
Dot Capps, devotional leader, used a program titled “What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit?”
Some of the questions about being filled with the Spirit include “How does it feel?” and ”When does it take place?” she said, adding that the Spirit shares the same nature as the other two members of the Holy Trinity — God the Father and God the Son.
Ms. Capps said the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ and He has always been the Spirit of God.
Some accounts of the Holy Spirit are marked by special signs, such as speaking in tongues.
Baptists generally believe that the Spirit comes into a life at conversion.
It is the work of the Spirit to convict people of sin and to make them children of God by the new birth.
She said Baptists think believers should daily open their lives fully to the leadership of God’s Spirit and she added that the Spirit is always with His people.
Class members made a donation for school supplies in honor of Adell Dew, who had been the class’ substitute Sunday school teacher.
Trudy Thornton, hos-tess, served chocolate cake, chips and drinks.
The next hostess will be Edna McIntosh.
Those attending were Pat Cunningham, Lena Mai Pruitt, Ms. Rasberry, Ms. Capps, Ms. Thornton and Mrs. Passmore.
