Annual Band Supper fundraiser planned

The Martin Westview and Middle School bands will be sponsoring the annual Band Supper Sept. 18 from 4-8 p.m. at the Martin Recreation Park Pavilion.
The money raised helps offset the cost of uniforms, the cost of travel and upkeep of the instruments.
Tickets are $7.50 go on sale today (Tuesday). Tickets can be purchased from any Sharon, Martin Middle School and Westview Band member.
The bands will perform at the dinner beginning at 6.
Community members are asked to come out and support the band program.
The Westview Band officially kicked off its marching season Friday night during the Westview – McKenzie football game.
The band, under the direction of Mike Tucker in his 21 years at Westview and Derek Cook, prepared for the season with a week of band camp in July and several afternoon practices prior to the beginning of school. They will continue to work on perfecting their show with afternoon practices throughout the semester, moving into concert band rehearsals when marching season is over.
The award-winning Westview Marching Band is under the command of drum major, Sydney Gilliam.
This year’s show features music by Michael Giacchino.
The three selected pieces are “Enterprising Young Men” from Star Trek (2009), “The Glory Days” from The Incredibles, and “Memories” and “Escape” from the television show, Lost.
The band will be performing at all Westview football games, both home and away.
They also have five contests scheduled on Saturdays throughout September and October.
The first of these contests will take place Sept. 15 at the UT Martin Graham Field.
The band will then travel to Olive Branch, Miss.; Jonesboro, Ark.; Paragould, Ark., and an Illinois contest, to be announced.
