Mary Elizabeth (Arnold) Smith, 72, of Wren, Miss., died Aug. 24, 2012, at her home. She had been the youth director at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Union City.
A celebration of life service was held 4 p.m. Sunday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory, Miss., with the Revs. Harrison Upshaw and Tim Sisk officiating. Burial followed in Tranquil Cemetery in Mississippi. 
Pallbearers were Jimmy Flaherty, Thomas Griffith, Ted Gordon, David Boyd, Jerry Carter, Mike Pierson, Alan Haney and Brad Tate. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Sargent, John Allen, Mac Allen Thomas, Billy McGhee, Ray McGhee, Bubba McGhee, Ed Gilliland, Jimmy Glenn, Malcolm Glenn, Corey Glenn, Todd Glenn, Jimmy Forbus, Mike King, and Ronnie Herndon.

Born Oct. 2, 1939, in Monroe County, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Greely and Cora (Lay) Arnold.  She married Robert Smith in 1958. A graduate of Hatley (Miss.) High School, she was also a graduate of Vaughn’s Beauty College and was manager of Hall’s Beauty Supply in Tupelo, Miss., for many years. A woman of faith, she was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church. A hard worker, she was a member of the 4-H Club, was a former Monroe County beauty queen and was the original co-owner of the Lantern Loft Steakhouse and the Village Smiths Gift Shop. Before her retirement, she was manager of McRae’s Fine Jewelry in Columbus, Miss., and assistant manager of McRae’s Fine Jewelry in Tupelo and was regional sales manager for Eddy Parker giftware.  
She was a lifetime member of the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers Inc. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and gardening and fishing.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert Noel Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Kay Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Glenn and Amber Smith of Amory; her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Sarah Arnold of Greenwood Springs, Miss.; and four grandchildren, Logan, Gavin, Cayden and Colbie Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janie Lee Newell.
