Unbeaten Kentuckians spoil UC’s home debut

Union City’s first home volleyball match had a similar result as its first match ever.
The Lady Tornadoes dropped a 3-0 decision to Hickman County on Thursday afternoon, falling 25-13, 25-8 and 25-11.
It was the first-year program’s second match, having suffered a 3-0 setback at Trenton earlier in the week.
Brittany Parker served up two aces, the only UC player with an ace, in her 11 chances and added two kills, while Raven Fair topped the Lady Twisters with three kills. Halle Kennedy also had a pair of kills.
Fair and Parker led Union City in pass attempts with 26 and 24, respectively, while Molly Maclin had 18 attempts and Sadie Hollis added 16.
“We have several kinks to get ironed out, but I have faith in these girls,” UC head coach Angie Searcy said.
Union City grabbed a 3-0 lead in the opening set, getting two points off Parker serves following HC’s opening serve into the net.
The Lady Falcons followed with four straight points, and the teams were tied twice before HC twice reeled off five straight points in taking an 18-8 lead.
Hickman County opened the second set with six straight points and then used a 13-1 run to break away from a 5-all tie in the third set.
Hickman County swept the junior varsity match as well, winning 2-0 (25-3, 25-8).
UC is now 0-2 and will host Halls on Tuesday. Hickman County improves to 5-0 and begins play in the First Region All “A” Classic on Saturday.
