Local volunteers do their part to Keep America Beautiful

Obion County has reason to celebrate again.
Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB) once again achieved 100-percent participation from all 95 counties during the 2012 Great American Cleanup (GAC) thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers.
This marked the sixth year in a row KTnB and its local organizers have accomplished this feat.
“Our national impact is only achieved through local community engagement that rallies individuals to make their communities cleaner, greener and more livable,” said Keep America Beautiful President and CEO Matthew M. McKenna. “Keep America Beautiful salutes our state and local affiliates in Tennessee for achieving an incredible 100 percent participation in the Great American Cleanup for six consecutive years.”
Union City City Beautiful Commision, led by Margie Smith, collected 48,000 pounds of trash in the county. A total of 20 volunteers contributed 50 hours, helping Mrs. Smith achieve these totals.
