The Lambuth Campus of the University of Memphis will hold its first Student Convocation for new and returning students at 11 a.m. Aug. 30 in the R.E. Womack Chapel on the campus.
University President Shirley Raines will be the featured speaker.
A picnic lunch on the campus quadrangle will follow the ceremony. Planners expect more than 200 people to attend.
The U of M began offering classes at the Lambuth Campus after Lambuth University, a private, Meth-odist-affiliated school, ceased operation after 168 years. The campus grounds and facilities were acquired by the Tennessee Board of Regents on behalf of the U of M in December 2011.
At the Lambuth Campus, the U of M offers a four-year, public college education, with easy access for students from Jackson and West Tennessee. Full undergraduate programs are available this fall in business management, accounting, communication, criminal justice, education, nursing, psychology and biology.
Graduate programs are available in education, liberal studies and professional studies.
