Two drivers were injured Wednesday afternoon during a three-vehicle chain reaction collision on East Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
The crash occurred about 4 p.m. after a car driven by Vanessa Alexander, 40, of 722 Broadway, South Fulton, initially started to stall on East Reelfoot Avenue, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Ms. Alexander told police she was eastbound on East Reelfoot Avenue when her 2001 Buick Century started to stall. She put on her emergency flashers and came to a stop.
James M. Richards, 26, of 4574 Bumpus Road, Union City, told police he was traveling behind Ms. Alexander in a 2000 GMC and stopped when he noticed she had stalled. Meanwhile, Dianne C. Gammons, 46, of 4081 Cloys Road, Union City, was also eastbound and said a vehicle in front of her had switched lanes quickly and she came upon the two stopped vehicles.
Ms. Gammons’ 1997 Chevrolet van struck the rear of Richards’ vehicle, causing him to strike the rear of Ms. Alexander’s vehicle, according to the report.
Ms. Alexander and Richards were both taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment. No injuries were reported to Ms. Alexander’s and Ms. Gammons’ passengers.
Ms. Gammons was charged with following too closely, police reported.
