Seniors compete at state

The 2012 Tennessee Senior Olympic games were held recently in Franklin.
The Senior Olympics program, sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, provides events for seniors ages 50 and older at the district and state level.
This year is qualifying year for the nationals that will be held in 2013 in Cleveland, Ohio.
“The games are designed to promote camaraderie and teamwork among fellow senior athletes, all while emphasizing the fact that exercise is important at any age,” said Christine Dewbre, executive director of the Tennessee Senior Olympics.
Obion Countians who won on the state level and have now qualified to represent Tennessee at nationals include:
• Betty June Wilson and David Wilson, fourth place bowling doubles;
• Anna Burkeen, silver in bowling singles;
• Ms. Burkeen and Marilyn Hill, silver in bowling doubles;
• Ms. Burkeen and Ron Bates, silver in bowling mixed doubles;
• Janice Faulk and Margaret Vaughn, bronze in tennis doubles.
