The New Salem FCE Club met recently with Mary Elizabeth Bell as hostess and 13 members attending. Special guests were agent Beverly Shelby and Jenny Richmond, a student at University of Tennessee at Martin, who is also doing extension training in Weakley County.
President Bettye Higgs welcomed the group. Deanna Higgs used a recording of The Pledge of Allegiance for the devotional.
Song leader Marjorie Simmons led the song, “America”
June and July birthdays of Sylvia Simmons, Marjorie Simmons, Norma Goad and Bertie Higgs were recognized.
The wedding anniversary of Fonda Halst was also recognized.
As Ruby Rogers called the roll, each one answered with her favorite ice cream flavor in observance of National Ice Cream Day July 17, designated by Pres. Ronald Reagan in 1984. Each one also gave the number of school supplies brought for a donation to We Care Ministries.
Reminders were the county council meeting July 12; mini-conference at Jackson on July 27; state and national dues are due Sept. 1; Weakley and Obion counties are to be hostesses at the state conference in November; remember to keep up with CVU’s and log books read; county council fall outing will be at Jackson UT Extension when fall flowers will be seen and other things of interest at the center.
Agent Shelby introduced Jenny Richmond who brought an interesting program on making healthful choices when eating out.
Adjournment was the reading of “And thou shalt be secure because there is hope,” Job 11:12.
Afterwards, the group enjoyed recreation and delicious refreshments provided by the hostess.
The August meeting will be an outing and will meet at Wimpy’s in Greenfield for lunch before going to LoraLee’s Hobby and Antique Shop in Greenfield. Published in The WCP 8.2.12
