New secondary coach
for UTM football

Jason Simpson, the seventh-year head football coach at UT Martin, recently said that David Reeves of Southern Arkansas University would take over as the new secondary coach for the Skyhawks.
Reeves replaces Nathan Burton, who left earlier this month to become the defensive coordinator at Shorter College in Rome, Ga. Reeves is the second assistant coach with Southern Arkansas ties to join the UT Martin staff. The other former SAU coach is current UT Martin defensive coordinator Jeff Byrd.
Reeves was at Southern Arkansas for four years and served as the defensive coordinator for the past two years. Before SAU, Reeves served for two years, 2005-06, as a graduate assistant at Alabama.
Before going to Alabama, Reeves was at Athens (Ala.) High School, where he served for five years (2000-05) as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the football team.
Reeves received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Athens State (Ala.) College in 1991 and his master’s in sport management from Alabama in 2006. He has two sons, Rhett and Major.
