Dresden Duplicate Bridge

Dresden Duplicate Bridge

Dresden Duplicate Bridge Club had two games last week – Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 12:30. Six tables were in play with very interesting and persistently-challenging hands.
On Tuesday night, Fredrika Schleifer and Charlotte Erwin were hostesses and served the best chocolate pudding cream pie ever put in one’s mouth, and a huge bowl full of fancy nuts. There were so many nuts, you could pick out your favorite and there would still be enough left for the next person to have their favorite. On that occasion, Sarah Pentecost and Becky Bennett were first, and Bertha Henry and Toni Pritchett took second place.
On Wednesday afternoon, refreshments were two avocado dips and the best homemade tomato salsa made by Lois Harbour. Tom Beard’s banana nut bread cake, a brick of cheese and blue corn chips were also served.
Several of our players were out because of sickness, so attendance was down, but we enjoyed the ones who were there. Sarah Pentecost and Tom Beard came in first and three pairs tied for second – Rogers and Jenkins, Ehlers and Hohman, and Thompson and Pritchett.
Did you know that Betty Ford, wife of President Ford, enjoyed playing bridge? And one of her profound statements was, “I don’t lie to dodge a question, and I guess I’m not astute enough to walk around it.”
