MEMPHIS (AP) — Federal law enforcement officials in Memphis are announcing a new unit to fight gang crime.
U.S. Attorney Edward Stanton, Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong and other officials are gathering Monday morning to discuss the creation of a new, multi-agency gang enforcement and investigative unit for Memphis, Shelby County and West Tennessee.
The region already has existing multi-agency task forces on organized crime and drug trafficking.
The Associated Press first reported the creation of the new gang unit in an interview with Stanton in January.
