Oversized truck loads are going to bring Interstate 75’s southbound lanes to a crawl this week and in early August.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said today that the loads will move through McMinn and Bradley counties at 10-15 miles per hour, taking up both southbound lanes of I-75.
The first load will be moved today, beginning at 8 p.m. and lasting until around 7 a.m. Tuesday. Another load will follow the same route overnight Wednesday and a third load will follow overnight on Aug. 6. The stretch of I-75 affected will be between the exits for Athens and Calhoun.
Workers are shutting down a tunnel on Interstate 40 in the North Carolina mountains to inspect the structure.
The North Carolina Department of Transpor-tation said the first tunnel heading east will closed from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. through Wednesday with traffic sent along a service road near the tunnel. The tunnel will be closed again on July 29.
