Brent Gilbert showed that he was among the best young baseball players from coast to coast.
Earlier this summer, Gilbert earned a spot in the Coast to Coast Baseball Camp, one of about 150 players from across the nation chosen to participate.
The elite group of players worked out in Jupiter, Fla., at the spring training home of the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins.
The camp was held June 15-19.
Gilbert was chosen from among nearly 2,000 players at a tryout camp held last August at Christian Brothers University in Memphis.
The Coast to Coast camp provided Gilbert the opportunity to showcase his skills against other top prospects.
Scouts from four colleges as well as the Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers worked with the players one-on-one and in small groups.
Gilbert played summer baseball for Brad Dame and Joe Graves.
The Sharon native and Westview High School graduate recently signed to play collegiately at Shawnee Community College, located in Ullin, Ill. Published in The WCP 7.17.12
