UC stars earn spot in title round

Union City has already earned a spot in the next round.
It will take some work to pave the path in gold.
UC and Lexington will square off tonight in the championship round of the 13-Year-Old West State Babe Ruth Tournament, being held in Union City.
The local stars already have a loss to Lexington in the tournament and must win twice tonight to take the tourney title.
Both teams will move on to the state tournament next week.
The following are the results of UC’s games played over the weekend.
Lexington 16, UC 2
Lexington banged out 12 hits, including three for extra bases, and took advantage of five Union City errors to win their showdown.
Evan Russell tripled, while both Landon Hendrix and Kenneth Burch doubled for Lexington.
Hendrix had four hits and drove in four runs, while both Konner Pearcy and Clay Allen added two hits, Pearcy scoring three times.
Jon David Fuzzell was 2-for-3 with a double, and Graham Paschall added a two-base hit to pace Union City.
Pearcy was the winning pitcher, while Jordan Fowler, one of five UC pitchers, suffered the loss.
UC 21, West Carroll 0
Union City put up 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back in a game called after five innings.
UC had 15 hits and was aided by six West Carroll errors.
Jack Guess as 3-for-4 with a triple, four runs and four RBI, while Sam Guess, Kalab Dowell, Jon David Fuzzell and Graham Paschall added two hits each for Union City.
Dowell homered and scored twice, Fuzzell tripled and drove in two runs, and Sam Guess doubled and scored three times.
In addition, Tripp Conley tripled, and Clint Baker doubled for UC.
Sam Guess and Garrett Northam combined on a two-hitter, Guess getting the win, while Patrick Becker suffered the loss.
UC 8, Decatur Co. 2
Kalab Dowell was 3-for-4 with a double to lead Union City’s 10-hit attack.
Jack Guess added two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs, while Jon David Fuzzell tripled and Clint Baker doubled for UC.
Dustin Rhodes had two hits for Decatur.
Jack Guess also tossed a complete game for the win, striking out six. Shane Welch suffered the loss.
UC 21, Dresden 7
The Union City squad had another 21-run effort, tripling Dresden in its bid to reach the title round.
Cooper Hurt led the 15-hit UC attack by going 4-for-4 with two triples, five RBI and four runs.
Jack Guess, Jon David Fuzzell and Jordan Fowler had two hits each for Union City. Guess scored twice and drove in two runs, while Fuzzell had three runs and two RBI.
Garrett Northam added a double for UC.
Austin Thomas and Dresser Winn each had two hits, with a double, for Dresden.
Fuzzell was the winning pitcher over Quincey McDonalds, both teams using three pitchers.
