LEND A HAND
A group of men from the HVAC class at the Tennessee Technology Center at McKenzie were recently referred to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee in Union City because they heard the club didn’t have any working air conditioning units. Instructor Terry Wilson inquired about bringing his class over to look at the units since he is always looking for real-life experiences to help better prepare his classes. The class came to the club and, within four days, had all four of the units operating, even after club officials had been told two of the units were beyond repair. Since the group did the work as training, they did not charge the Boys & Girls Club for any labor and the club was only out a few dollars for parts. Among those who completed the repairs were (from left, front row) Tommy Sledd, Anthony Clayton, Wilson, Chris Peeler, Joel Smith, Bobby White, Darren Davis, (back row) Joey Pickard, Bill Adams, Jacob Ferguson, Jamie Smith, Charles Ramey and James Middlebrooks. Not pictured were Joey Davis and Dillion Forrester. Club director Tracy Boucher said the club was “truly blessed” to have men willing to take time out of their schedules and work in hot weather to ensure the club could have air conditioning. The Boys & Girls Club is certified through the Tennessee Department of Education and if the air had not been repaired, the club would have been forced to shut down the program or find an alternative site for its summer program.
