Cecil C. Powell, 92, of Martin died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Pigg officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Trenton with Murphy Funeral Home in Martin in charge of the arrangements.
Dan Garner, James P. Moore, Clyde Miles, Kenneth Bach and Phillip Davis served as pallbearers.
Powell was born April 4, 1920, in Gibson County, son of the late Joseph Eli and Mary Hicks Powell. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was the former owner/operator of Library/Big John Super Market in Martin and attended Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joyceann Parnell Powell of Martin; one son, Cecil Ashley Powell of Virginia; one stepson, Fredrick Elwood Carter of Virginia; and two stepdaughters, Sherry Carter Bash and Tammie Carol Powell, both of Virginia.
