CINCINNATI (AP) — A southwest Ohio morning television anchorwoman has delivered some personal news on-air, saying she is being treated for breast cancer.
WCPO-TV’s Kathrine Nero told viewers the reason she had been away the past two weeks was to undergo surgery. She says she was diagnosed one month ago.
Fighting to keep from choking up at the end of the Cincinnati local newscast, she said she discovered a lump early with self-examination. She wrote on the WCPO website that she expects to be around for many more “Good Morning Tri-State” shows, which air in southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana.
She says she is waiting for the next step in treatment, likely to be radiation.
The 38-year-old Memphis native joined the ABC affiliate in 1998.
