Local teams to travel near and far for 7-on-7 camps

UT Martin will host a 7-on-7 Tournament and a Big Man/Skills Elite Training Camp Saturday at Hardy M. Graham Stadium.
Registration is currently under way and teams can register the day of the event.
Obion Central is scheduled to participate in the event after finishing runnerup last year.
The Rebels will be the lone Obion County team to be involved, though both Union City and South Fulton have several such competitions on their calendar prior to the first day of pads, Aug. 1.
UC is scheduled to participate in a similar 7-on-7 at Vanderbilt this weekend. The Golden Tornadoes are also slated to be involved in passing competitions July 19 at Arkansas State, July 21 at Tennessee State, July 23 at home vs. Madisonville (Ky.), Lone Oak and Paducah Tilghman, and in a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event in Jackson on July 25.
Union City will again journey to team in Columbia, beginning July 29.
South Fulton will participate in a pair of 7-on-7 competitions prior to putting on pads for the first time.
The Red Devils are slated to be involved with several other teams in drills at Bethel University on July 20 before also participating in the FCA event at University School of Jackson five days later.
Obion Central will be busy in the 7-on-7 circuit, according to a schedule released last month.
In addition to Saturday’s games at UT Martin, the Rebels were scheduled to work out with Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville. Work vs. Dyer County and against Dresden and Henry County, planned at Bethel, is also part of OC’s plans.
All teams participating in the UTM 7-on-7 Tournament this weekend are guaranteed four to six games.
The top teams in each group will advance to a single-elimination tournament which will yield the eventual tournament champion.
Liberty High School from Jackson will defend its 2011 tournament title.
All 7-on-7 teams must have at least seven players. However, 10-15 players are strongly recommended.
Each participating athlete must fill out a registration form. The form is online at www.utmsports.com.
A $200 admission fee is required for all teams participating in the 7-on-7 competition.
Registration for the Big Man/Skills Elite Training Camp is also under way.
Participants may register from 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday. A $30 admission fee for all participating athletes is required.
Athletes will compete throughout the day in various skill development drills.
At the end of the day, participants will be given a chance to compete against some of the elite talent from the local area through various competitions.
