An arrest has been made in the theft of more than 30 feet of stainless steel from a Union City business.
Last week employees at Blue Steel Tool at 2309 North Fifth St. told police someone took 33 feet of stainless steel, which was quarter-inch by four inches wide, according to a Union City Police Department report.
After an investigation showed Bobby J. McGinnis, 33, of 122 South Keller St., Union City, allegedly asked his father to take a load of metal to A&J Salvage, police arrested and charged the younger McGinnis with theft on Saturday.
The report stated three bars of stainless steel were included in the load. The steel had already been cut into smaller pieces at the salvage yard.
While at McGinnis’ home Saturday to make the arrest, officers found a street sign for Gumm and Beech streets in his garbage can. He claimed he found it in a ditch. The Obion County Sheriff’s Department was contacted and asked to call the Obion County Highway Department about the sign, which is being stored at the police department.Published in The Messenger 7.3.12
