Kelli West is more than just a graduating senior with high aspirations of entering veterinary school at Mississippi State University.
She is also a multi-national champion with quite an impressive resume of equestrian accomplishments.
Miss West, the daughter of Stan and Stacy West, has been a member of the family’s Welsh pony and show team for many years.
During those years, she traveled all over the country from Maryland to Texas to show her Welsh ponies.
These travels are in the company of her mom and dad, aunts, Ruth Wilburn DVM, Joanna Wilburn and Sally Ross Davis, as well as her cousins, Mason and Turner Davis.
It is this tight knit family unit, which has enabled the farm to have success in the horse show world.
During 2011, West won the coveted National Champion in Hunter with the Welsh Pony and Cob Association.
During 2011, Rollingwoods Farm was awarded an Order of the Dragon for breeding outstanding Welsh ponies.
Without the help of Miss West and her cousins, this honor would not have been possible.
Of course, the win in 2011 is just the culmination of many years of hard work and determination and is no means the only national title that Miss West has won.
Details of the many wins would just be the icing on the cake for Miss West.
During the years of traveling with her family, she has learned the value of hard work, the value of laughter, as well as the benefits of making friends from all over.
Possibly the most important lesson learned from these experiences is the meaning of the word, “family.” Published in The WCP 6.28.12
