Brian Smith lauded for business efforts

ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD – Brian Smith, owner of The Sideline physical therapy and fitness center in Martin, recently received the 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year award at the West Tennessee Regional Entrepreneur Conference held in Jackson. According to his nomination, Smith recognized the need for a physical therapy clinic in the Martin community and opened the business in 2003. With success the business expanded and relocated in 2005 into the town’s 1947 movie theatre. The Sideline is active in the community and employs 10 full-time staff members and 43 part-time. The conference was sponsored by the WestStar leadership program and the University of Tennessee at Martin. On hand for the designation were (from left) Virginia Grimes, WestStar leadership program coordinator; Smith; and Landy Fuqua, director of the Regional Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Center, who nominated Smith for the award.
