Garden festival slated

The Dyer County Garden Festival will be held at Dyer County High School, located at 1000 West Main St. in Newbern, Friday and Saturday.
There will be a plant sale, horticultural speakers, garden tours, prizes, T-shirts, vendors and food and beverages.
Guest speakers include Dr. Allan Armitage, University of Georgia-Athens, author/book signing; Rita Randolph, Randolph’s Nursery of Jackson, author/book signing; Carol Reese, UT Horticulture Extension Specialist of Jackson; Guy Robbins, horticulturist and owner of Robbins Nursery in Martin; and Lucas Holman, horticulture instructor in Murfreesboro.
Friday’s event includes self-guided garden tours at no charge or $5 garden tours with guide Dr. Allan Armitage at 6 p.m.; and “Tales from the Garden” with Armitage at 7.
Saturday’s events begin with a meet-and-greet, self-guided tours and a light breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a “Walk About Tour” with Armitage for $5 per person at 8:30 or self-guided tours at no charge.
Horticultural classes will begin at 9, 10, 11, 12:30 p.m. and 1:30.
Lunch is $5 per person from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. from the Dyer County FFA Salad Bar Extravaganza.
