The Thomas Asbury Fisher reunion was held recently on a Saturday in Martin. Sixteen family members enjoyed a get-together at the Hearth Restaurant at noon that day. Seventeen family members enjoyed fellowship at the Hampton Inn in Martin, and 28 members enjoyed getting together and eating at Brandy’s on the patio that evening.
That morning, seven family members toured the Sidonia and Mt. Vernon area where their forefathers settled when they came from Decatur County. The group also stopped at Tansil Cemetery, where many of their family members are buried. A total of 30 family members attended one or all of the events.
A table was set up to display various memorabilia of family members. There were also some family pictures on display.
Jimmy Trentham shared the family connection of the late Sadie Cook of Gleason, who died this past year of an asthmatic attack. Her twin is Brandon Cook, the children of Jan Finch Cook, grandchildren of Phillip and Odell Connell Finch, and great-grandchildren of Leora Fisher Connell. In the past two years we have learned of two more sets of twins in the Fisher family making a total of 10 sets in the Fisher lineage. Some of them are deceased.
Attendance is broken down by the Fisher children who came here from Decatur County. Descendants of Thomas Fisher: Carol Fisher Lemonds of McKenzie; Sam and Doris Fowlkes Brooks of Rives; Clay, Joanna and Ruth Anna Pace from Cerrito, Calif.; and Tom and Marcia Foster of Memphis. Descendants of Leora Fisher Connell were Jimmy and Barbara Trentham of Martin. Descendants of Alva Fisher: John Fisher of Martin, Donnie and Janice Fisher Simmons of Hixson, and Jack Harding, widower of Hazel Fisher Harding, from The Villages in Florida. Descendants of Delmer Fisher: Mildred Fisher Clarke of Dunedon, Fla., Ken Fisher Clarke of Palm Harbor, Fla., Angie Fisher Damron, Bill and Martha Fisher High, David and Senaee High Stout, Brandon Stout, Courtney McMillin, Dawne Damron Belote, Emily Belote, Amy Belote, all of Martin, Barry and Tesse High of Dresden, Roy and Sherry Fisher Tarwater of Huntingdon. There were no descendants present from Joseph Fisher, Rev. Syl Fisher and Elizabeth Fisher Kindle.
The family welcomed the Pace and Brooks family, descendants of Thomas Fisher. The Pace family traveled the longest distance and their daughter was the youngest present. The oldest family member was Jack Harding, 96. The person with the most children was Dawne Damron Belote, mother of six children. The next reunion will be the third weekend in May 2013.
