TAKING SHAPE — Union City’s $60 million Discovery Park of America project off Everett Boulevard is beginning to take shape this summer. Progress on the park is really becoming evident with work on the 100,000-square-foot main exhibit building. Massive steel girders and concrete are coming together to form the shell that will soon become the Discovery Park of America’s main exhibit building. The park is being developed through the Robert E. and Jenny D. Kirkland Foundation and is scheduled to open early next year. Once completed, the main exhibit building will feature nine exhibit galleries with multi-story atriums, a starship theater, a 20,000-gallon aquarium, a 60-foot replica of the human body and a 200-foot-tall tower with an outdoor observation area. There is also a major water feature at the site, along with historic log structures, a large farm equipment showcase, an amphitheater with a great lawn area and several themed gardens.
