Miss Harris was flute section leader for the 2011-12 school year in her high school band. She participated in the Jackson Youth Symphony for two years. She was an active participant in the Madison Academic Magnet High School band since her freshman year. She also enjoys playing the piano. The Sousa Award is the most prestigious award for high school band students. John Phillip Sousa was not only a renowned composer and band leader, he was also a strong supporter of school music programs. Directors look for a band member deserving of the title by considering their musicianship, leadership, dependability and loyalty. It is truly an honor to receive this award. Miss Harris the daughter of Tim and Dina Harris of Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Maricharles and Russell Riggins of Martin and Vera Strickland and the late E.H. Strickland of Jackson.
