Pre-College piano students of Dr. Elaine Harriss presented a recital recently at the Weldon Public Library in Martin.
Students performing included Gian Garma and Dan McDonough of Martin, William McDonald of McKenzie and Anna Johnson of Dresden.
Several piano students from the class of Linda Williams were included in auditions this spring celebrating the conclusion of a successful year of piano study.
Performing in local auditions sponsored by the Martin Area Music Teachers’ Association were Brady Chandler, Rebecca Fernandez, Helen Kendall, Martha Kendall and Abigail Wiggins.
In May, the National Guild of Piano Teachers of Austin, Texas, sponsored auditions for piano students to be accepted into the National Federation of Student Musicians. Students entering this event held at the University of Tennessee at Martin, elect to perform from four to 10 pieces and receive ratings from a judge selected by the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
Included in this audition were Robyn Burden, Brady Chandler, Rebecca Fernandez, Helen Kendall, Martha Kendall, Haley McKinney, Caleb Parker, Bayleigh Powers, Abigail Wiggins and Joanna Wiggins.
Later in June, Rebecca Fernandez and Abigail Wiggins will be competing in Memphis at the state auditions sponsored by the Tennessee Music Teachers Association.
These events are planned each year to provide incentives that challenge students to excell and achieve awards for their work throughout the year.
