The Messenger, May 29, 2012 The Union City Police Department has received reports of theft from two separate homes in separate incidents. More than $4,500 in jewelry and silverware were taken from a Florida Avenue home while the resident was out of state. Neil Stover of Union City told police Friday he was mowing the lawn when he noticed the home had been broken into. The resident, Betty Faulkner Holt, 81, was in Alabama at the time. Entry to the home was made through an east side window, which was broken out. Also taken was a book of checks. David Moffatt Wheeler, 62, of Union City told police Saturday that he had left his apartment on High School Drive for two or three minutes and, when he returned, he noticed someone had entered his apartment and taken a vase filled with one dollar coins. He estimated the vase, which was blue ceramic, contained about $1,000 in presidential coins, Susan B. Anthony coins and Sacajawea coins.
