Donald Eugene Savage, 71, of Medon died May 28, 2012, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at George A. Smith & Sons South Chapel in Jackson, with burial to follow there in Highland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers serving will be Justin Wilson, Jerold Wilson, Cody Green, Howard Knight, Joe Hunt  and David Rea.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home and Thursday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.
He was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Rives, son of the late Willie Thomas Eugene and Elizabeth (Ables) Savage. He was a locomotive engineer and was known as D.E. Savage on the railroad. He was married May 14, 1961, to the former Doris Gibson. He is considered by his family to be the “World’s Greatest Dad.”
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris (Gibson) Savage; two daughters and his son-in-law, Judy and Jerold Wilson of Medon and Eugenia Savage of Linden; his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Chaundra Savage of Jackson; his sister, Laverne Adams of Fulton; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dean Savage of Pinson; two grandchildren and the spouse of one, Cody and Holly Green of Pinson and Justin Wilson of Medon; his great-grandson, Gavin Green of Pinson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Diedre Savage; his great-grandson, Mason Green; and his brother, Willie Joe Savage.
