UC native honored by ABWA Posted: Monday, May 21, 2012 9:09 pm Union City native Sonya Burks was recently chosen as the Southern Accent chapter of the American Business Women’s Association’s 2011 Women of the Year, according to The Dyersburg State Gazette. She is the daughter of Jim and Pat Kirby of Union City and is a 1979 graduate of Union City High School. Ms. Burks joined the ABWA in 2007. During the past five years she has served as publicity chairman, fundraising chairman, membership chairman, vice president and president. She also organized the club’s Girls’ Night Out fundraising events in 2011 and 2012. Ms. Burks has been in the banking business for 33 years and she has been a part of the First Citizens National Bank team for the past 21 years. She has been involved in many other organizations outside ABWA, including Dyer County Leadership, Obion County Adult Leadership, the YMCA board of directors, Cotillion Club, Home Builders Association and the Dyer County Board of Realtors. , |
