Fulton gets new city manager

Fulton has a new city manager.
Longtime Fulton resident Cubb Stokes has been selected to fill the position being vacated by Steven Freedman.
Stokes, who reportedly retired in March after 28 years in a supervisory position with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., will begin work June 1. During that time, he will have the opportunity to work with Freedman before his June 30 departure.
Stokes apparently was chosen from applicants that included both local and non-local applicants.
The announcement about Stokes’ being chosen was made Monday evening during a special called session of the Fulton City Commission. The commissioners adjourned into a closed executive session to discuss personnel and returned to open session to announce the selection.
Freedman submitted his resignation to the city commission March 12 after less than a year on the job. He had relocated from San Diego to Fulton and had been on the job as Fulton’s city manager since about mid-July 2011.
Freedman had succeeded Kenney Etherton, who resigned April 1, 2011, to accept a position as executive director of the Fulton County (Ky.) Transit Authority.
Fulton Mayor Elaine Forrester could not be reached for comment this morning.
