UC hosting region’s top netters

Some of Region 7A-AA’s best tennis players are coming to Union City.
The Golden Tornadoes will play host to the singles and doubles regional tournaments for boys and girls on Monday.
Action will get under way at 4 p.m. at the courts adjacent to Union City Middle School.
Union City will have six players involved in the event — two girls’ doubles teams and one boys’ tandem.
Anna Moore and Maddie King, the District 14A-AA champs, will play 13A-AA runner-up Kalee Kesterson and Kendal Cook of Greenfield.
Tara Elam and Jenna Miller, who finished runner-up in the district, meet Milan’s Mary Joe Stinson and Emmy Merritt.
Boys’ district runner-up Jacob Triplett and Devin King will play Michael Jaeger and Barrett Phelps of Huntingdon.
The Mustangs also have Austin Sampson and John Harden in the boys’ doubles bracket, playing Mason Joyner and Garrett Gooch of Halls.
The girls’ singles matchups include Mary C. Sharpe of Haywood facing Haley Hays of Camden and Amy Davis of Haywood playing Taylor Hatcher of Greenfield.
Boys’ singles action will have James Vaughn of Ripley meeting Matt Wassman of Camden and Drew Butler of Trenton taking on K.C. Miller of Huntingdon.
The region champion in each bracket will advance to the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro for the state tournament, beginning May 21.
The UC girls’ team will play TCA in the sectional round 4 p.m. Thursday in Jackson.
