James Richard “Rick” Bowers Jr., 58, of Union City died 2:45 p.m. May 10, 2012, at his home.
Services will be noon Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Ponticello officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home 5-8 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be members of Knights of Columbus.
He was born Jan. 18, 1954, in Pittsburg, Kan., son of James Richard Bowers Sr. of Nixa, Mo., and the late Leah (Bragg) Parnell. He married the former Kathy Gatlin Nov. 14, 1981. She died June 24, 2007. He was employed as a technical writer for Greenfield Products in Union City. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union City, he had served as a lector and Eucharist minister and was an adult and children’s teacher for the past 27 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Obion County Right to Life. He had served on the board of directors for Helping Hand Ministry and was a member of the Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Jacob Hamrick of Nashville; two sisters, Mary Catherine Gatlin of Only and Sarah Elizabeth Baker of Blytheville, Ark.; his brother, William Michael Bowers of Huntingdon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Maria Dockery; and his brother, Jeffery Allen Bowers.
