The Skyhawks won the opening game of its OVC series against Eastern Kentucky with an 11-7 win on Friday but then suffered losses of 16-3 and 8-7 in baseball action at home UTM (12-34, 6-15 OVC) had an 8-run fourth inning to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the opening game. Then, in the rubber game on Sunday, the Skyhawks tied the game three times but could never get ahead in falling short by a run. Nico Zych had a big weekend with six hits. UTM 11, EKU 7 Jordan Owen and Phil Sorensen were 3-for-4 with a double, Sorensen scoring twice, while Zych was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for UTM. Jake Deason and Sonny Mastromatteo had two hits each, and Grant Glasser doubled and drove in two runs. Alec Mills (3-5) was the winning pitcher, while Dan Tobik picked up his fourth save of the season. EKU 16, UTM 3 Chase Okey was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, and Zych doubled for the Skyhawks. Alex Boshers (0-4) suffered the mound loss. EKU 8, UTM 7 The Skyhawks played catch-up all afternoon and came up just short, Owen and Zych were 3-for-5, Owen with a triple, double and two runs and Zych with a double, while Matt Young was 2-for-4 and Glasser doubled.
