UT Martin’s Leah Taylor was named to the Capital One Academic All-District as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She is the only student-athlete from the Ohio Valley Conference to receive recognition.
The junior outfielder carries a 3.96 grade point average in marketing. Taylor, a native of Brownsville currently leads the league in batting average (.395), runs scored (54) and triples (10). She also ranks second in the OVC in total bases (114) and third in hits (68).
With her selection to the Academic All-District team, Taylor will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, which will be selected later this month.

Skyhawks’ Carr
on QB Watch List

Derek Carr, the rising senior quarterback at UT Martin from McKenzie, has been named to the 2012 College Football Performance Award (CFPA) Quarterback Watch List.
Carr passed for 2,482 yards in 2011 and threw 25 touchdown passes. He averaged 225.6 yards per game. He completed 200-of-346 passes (57.8 percent).
He was named adidas OVC Offensive Player of the Week after he passed for 387 yards against Austin Peay. Carr passed for more than 300 yards three times and for more than 200 yards twice in 2011.
Carr was 28th in the nation for passing yards per game and he was 27th in the nation for total passing yards.
