Westview’s 10 entrants in the District 14A-AA Tennis Tournament totaled eight wins overall.
Unfortunately for the Chargers, there won’t be any more wins this season.
One doubles team and one singles player, both in the boys’ brackets, reached the semifinal round but could not get into the tournament finals or the net postseason round in action at Skyhawk Courts on the UT Martin campus over the weekend.
The first three rounds were played on Friday afternoon, and then the semifinals and championship matches were played Saturday. All players reaching the championship round will advance to the Region 7A-AA Tournament, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in Union City.
Westview came close twice.
Gian Garma, seeded fifth in the boys’ singles bracket, knocked off Luke Wilson of Halls and Ross Houghton of Haywood on Friday to make the second day of play but then lost to second seeded Drew Butler of Trenton.
The doubles team of Conner Blanchard and Harrison Capps also won twice on Friday before losing to Union City’s Jacob Triplett and Devin King in the semifinals.
Carlie Vowell and Natalie Hurst came out of the first round and won twice on Friday, including a decision over Molly McAdams and Amanda Lopez of Haywood. The two then lost to Catherine Moore and Madison Vaughn of Dyersburg in the quarterfinals.
Both Westview players in the girls’ singles bracket won their openers before bowing out of the tourney. Laura Ferrer stopped Marissa Howard of Obion Central only to lose in the second round, while Melissa Darroch topped Laura Reed Smith of Union City before losing to Amy Davis of Haywood.
The Lady Charger doubles team of Jasmine Evans and Madison Williams lost to Laurie Williams and Sadie Liljenquist of Dyersburg, while Ethan Plunk fell to Austin Riley of Obion Central in boys’ singles. Published in The WCP 5.8.12
