Completed arrangements are being announced for Kathleen M. Sowell, 97, of the Woodland Mills area, who died May 7, 2012, at Magnolia Place in Union City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church near Union City, with the Rev. Hugh Barksdale officiating, assisted by Steve Moore. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5-8 this evening at White-Ranson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Barry Sowell, Chris Sowell, Cody Sowell, Blake Sowell, Rebecca Sowell, Elizabeth Sowell, Paige Sowell, Lon Sowell, Alec Sowell, Keith Dearman, James Newell, Justin Way, Kristopher Olson and Chase Sowell; and her nephew, Dennis Jones.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church; to Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
She was born Sept. 28, 1914, in Humphreys County, daughter of the late Algie Clifton and Alice (Epperson) Moore. She married T.C. “Thelbert” Sowell May 9, 1941. He died Nov. 22, 1988. She was a teacher who had taught second grade for 19 years at the former Woodland Mills School and had taught four years in Gibson County.
She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and the Obion County-Union City Retired Teachers Association. She was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Dickson Rotary Club. She had also been a member of the former Oak Grove Community Club.
She is survived by two sons and her daughter-in-law, Bill and Vickie Sowell of Woodland Mills and Jim Sowell of Dickson; two granddaughters, Rebecca Sowell and Elizabeth Sowell, both of Dickson; two grandsons, Barry Sowell of Union City and Chris Sowell of Millington; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and her brother, Bob Moore of Columbia, S.C.
She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
