Carolyn Davis White

Mrs. Carolyn Davis White, 84, of Martin died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Martin Health Care.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Martin Church of Christ with Bro. John Forgy and Bro. Ricky Phillips officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery in Martin with Murphy Funeral Home in Martin in charge of the arrangements.
Richard Kelly, Bob Pritchett, Johnny Vincent, Bubba Kelly, Doug Monroe and Jack Ogg will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. White was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Corpus Christi, Texas, daughter of the late W. O. and Ruth Bowden Davis. The family moved to Martin in 1931. She was a member of Martin Church of Christ. Carolyn’s main interests were her church, her family and teaching. She was a graduate of Martin High School, UT Junior College and graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1950. She was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi while there.
She taught school in several places in Tennessee for 31 years, but spent the longest time at Martin-Westview High School where she taught American History and also served as vice principal for seven years.
Carolyn has been a member of the Church of Christ since 1936 and has taught children’s classes, teenage girls and adult women’s classes since she was 17 years old.
She was active in Girl Scouts for 15 years as a Girl Scout Leader and Neighborhood Chairman.
Survivors include her husband, whom she married in 1949, Ed Neil White of Martin; two daughters, Dr. Carol W. (Phil) Hatler of Phoenix, Ariz., and Julia (John) Brundige of Martin; four grandchildren, Bonnie Brundige (Josh) Moore, Rebecca Louise Brundige (deceased), James Bowden (Sarah) Hatler and Phillip Neil (Kelly) Hatler; and three great-grandchildren, Marianne Elizabeth Moore, Elijah James Hatler and Isabelle Grace Hatler.
Memorials may be made to Tennessee Orphans Home.
