A Union City resident has reported to the Union City Police Department that she was scammed.
The Krislynndale Drive resident said she received a call on Thursday from an Asian man who told her the United States was making everyone change their Social Security numbers. He asked for her Social Security number and her bank account number, telling her it was urgent and they only had three minutes to make the changes. She provided the information and the caller hung up.
The resident’s son later contacted the bank and the Social Security office.
Residents are reminded never to provide such personal information to anyone over the phone.
