Lula M. Lemons Posted: Monday, May 7, 2012 2:33 pm The Messenger, May 7, 2012 Lula Mae (Baker) Lemons, 79, of Martin died 2:35 p.m. May 5, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family. Services were set for today at 10 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, with the Rev. Noel Edwards officiating. Burial was to follow in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. She was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Hurricane Mills, daughter of the late Gaines H. and Emmer Dee (Rushing) Baker. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Martin High School and the family enjoyed her stories of playing basketball in high school. She was basketball captain and was selected to attend Girls State. On Feb. 21, 1952, she married Willie Hobbs Lemons. He resides at their home in Martin. Mrs. Lemons retired from Hubbell Lighting Co. in Martin. She was a member of Mt. Pelia Baptist Church. She is also survived by her son and his spouse, Tommie and Pam Lemons of Union City; her daughter and her spouse, Debbie and Joe Varossa of Lebanon; two grandsons and their spouses, Will and Teresa Lemons of Martin and Bart and Elisha Lemons of Dyersburg; three great-grandsons, Kaleb Worrell of Union City and Brady Lemons and Price Lemons, both of Martin; and her sister, Bula Plunk of Martin. She was preceded in death by their daughter, Sheila Ann Lemons; her sister, Mattie Mae King; and two brothers, Monroe H. Baker and James H. Baker. |
