Central’s loss not the end

Central’s loss not the end

A late Obion County Central rally came up just short Friday evening in a 7-5 loss to host Dyersburg in the District 13AA Softball Tournament.
The Lady Rebels (31-12) remain alive, however, in the double-elimination tourney and will play Ripley today at 4 at DHS with the winner advancing and the loser’s season ending.
Should OC beat Ripley, it would face the winner of today’s 6 p.m. game pitting Westview at Milan — Tuesday at 5 o’clock.
Covington and Dyersburg are the two lone unbeaten clubs left in the tournament and will play in the winner’s bracket final tonight at 8 with the winner not only securing a berth in Wednesday’s championship round, but also a spot in next week’s Region 7AA Tournament.
Obion Central fell into an immediate hole Friday vs. D’burg as the Trojans scored three times in their first at-bat.
Central got two of those runs back in the third before the Lady Trojans scored four times in the seventh for a seemingly-safe 7-2 lead.
The Rebels girls didn’t quit, though, and scored three times in their final chance before leaving the tying run on the bases.
Carly Whipple doubled and had two runs batted in for OC. Emily Pickard also chased home a pair of tallies with a hit.
Both Rachel Jones and Alex Wilson went 2-for-3 with Wilson drive in the county locals’ other run.
Macy Alllison’s record now stands at 18-9 after the decision. She allowed 10 hits and three walks while striking out four.
Obion Central owns two regular season victories over Ripley heading into today’s game, the Lady Rebels having beaten the Tigers 8-1 and 6-3.
